We are a diverse group of dedicated professional artists:
painters, illustrators, sculptors, textile, glass, mixed & multimedia artists
We see ourselves as “mindful inventors” in the derivative art of our times, and this is a statement of our beliefs.
In creating our work, we use accumulated skill and imagination only. We invent our figures, forms, and compositions using our minds and hands, mature skills, and intuition. We call our figurative work “Figure Invention” and our other two and three-dimensional work “Visual Invention.” We find our subjects in the creative methods.
We experience the “creative methods” every time we look, open our minds, and touch our materials. We have committed our work to the invention of a new meaningful beauty.
Methods of Creating
Mona Mills ©
1. Focus: Clearing the mind of extraneous thoughts
2. Ritual: Preparation
3. Lack of preconception: Opening the mind to all
possibilities
4. Conversions and flash images/sensations:
Mindfulness of the environment and of unconscious
thought; “visionary,” “out of the blue” thinking
5. Work as partner and driver: Allowing a natural
progression without interference
6. Ease and grace: Finding the “zone” or “sweet spot”
7. Flexibility: Accepting challenge and change
8. Emotion: Noticing personal response and others’
responses, both positive and negative
9. Time, coming back, looking back: Viewing work as an
outsider/reassessment
10. Use of symbolism and synchronicity: Finding value in
metaphorical “non-literal” thought and in meaningful coincidence.
